Our Story
At Barium & Chemicals, Inc., we pride ourselves on being the premium chemical supplier for the military and automobile industries. With a production range that includes barium, strontium, and potassium compounds, as well as particle size specialties, we have been a trusted name in the industry for over 85 years.
Founded in 1937 by Albert and Anna Pavlik, our company has grown from its humble beginnings in Willoughby, Ohio, where we first produced barium peroxide, to our current location in Steubenville, Ohio. We operate out of a 180,000 square foot facility on the edge of the Ohio River, producing over 80 high-quality inorganic specialty chemical compounds. The rich history of the facility and its previous use as the old Steubenville Pottery, with its kilns, was quite an advantage for our operations. We first made barium oxide in kilns and were drawn to the Steubenville location which had six kilns allowing us to further refine our barium peroxide. This led to Albert Pavlik contributing to some of the early military specifications and forging the way with those customers we still hold dear. The proximity to major cities like Cleveland and Pittsburgh, along with the added benefit of rail access, certainly made it an ideal fit. This barium peroxide was integral during the war and established Barium & Chemicals, Inc. as a name in the industry.
Our success is built on impeccable quality standards, attention to customer needs, and dedicated ownership that has remained in the same family for generations. Today, under the third-generation leadership of Deborah Venci, we continue to uphold our family tradition and commitment to excellence. We strive to demonstrate our strong sense of community, which align with the values of Barium & Chemicals. The heritage of the Barium’s family has been based upon hard work, humility, and generosity. We truly believe this is what creates a solid foundation for a business and a community. Our core conviction is that success is not just measured by financial gains but also by the positive impact we have on others. Our deeply intertwined family legacy is the foundation of Barium & Chemicals, and has shaped the business we hold today.
