Corporate History

Barium & Chemicals, Inc was incorporated in 1937 by co-founders, Albert and Anna Pavlik and operated twenty miles east of Cleveland, Ohio in Willoughby, OH. Its main product line was Barium Peroxide a precursor for the subsequent manufacture of Hydrogen Peroxide.

In l960, Barium & Chemicals, Inc. moved the operations to Steubenville, Ohio after purchasing the The Steubenville Pottery Facility, a 180,000 square foot plant on forty acres of land adjacent to the Ohio River near Steubenville, OH. At this location the product line was expanded to include over 80 high quality inorganic specialty chemical compounds which are used by the electronic, plastic, automotive, rubber, ordnance, pyrotechnic and the specialty chemical industries. Barium & Chemicals’ growth and success is attributed, not only to the high standards of quality incorporated in the manufacturing and sales to buyer specification’s, but also to the attention and diligence in handling the customer’s needs and requirements.

Barium & Chemicals has remained a family owned business concentrating on production of a complete line of technical and purified grades of Barium, Strontium, Calcium, Potassium, Antimony, and Lead Compounds, as well as some Metallurgical specialty chemicals. As a leading supplier of these compounds, Barium & Chemicals, Inc. is one of the few remaining independent family-owned chemical manufacturers which have survived over seventy years in business.

In 2005, Eleanor R. Naylor, daughter of Albert and Anna Pavlik purchased the Corporation and remains strong in her commitment to the industry and community to continue Barium & Chemicals, Inc.’s achievement as a leader in the inorganic chemical industry as an ANSI/ASQ/ISO 9001:2000 certified company.

Working side by side with her husband, family, and dedicated staff, Eleanor looks forward to Barium & Chemicals, Inc. continuing its success as a women-owned family business under the direction of the new operating officers:
