2.) INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
  EINECS PERCENT CAS NO:
Lead Thiocyanate 209-774-6 100% 592-87-0
3.) HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Emergency Overview: Irritating to the skin and eyes on contact. Inhalation will cause irritation to the lungs and mucous membrane. Irritation to the eyes will cause watering and redness. Reddening, scaling, and itching are characteristics of skin contact. Follow safe industrial hygiene practices and always wear protective equipment when handling this compound.
Potential Health Effects: Lead salts have been reported to cross the placenta and to induce embryo- and feto- mortality. They also have teratogenic effect in some animal species. No teratogenic effects have been reported with exposure to organometallic lead compounds. Adverse effects of lead on human reproduction, embryonic and fetal development and postnatal (e.g., mental) development have been reported. Excessive exposure can affect blood, nervous and digestive systems. The synthesis of hemoglobin is inhibited and results in anemia. If left untreated, neuromuscular dysfunction, possible paralysis and encephalopathy can result. Additional symptoms of overexposure include: joint and muscle pain, weakness of the extensor muscles (frequently the hand and wrist), headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, blue line on the gums, insomnia and metallic taste. High body levels produce increased cerebrospinal pressure, brain damage, stupor leading to coma and often death.
4.) FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Call a physician.
Skin Contact: Flush skin with water. Wash clothing before reuse. Call a physician if irritation occurs.
Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.
Ingestion Contact: If swallowed, call a physician immediately.
5.) FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Extinguishing Media: Water Spray
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Contact with other material may cause fire.
Fire and Explosion Hazzards: Not considered to be an explosion hazard.
Hazardous Combustion Products: Emits toxic fumes under fire conditions.
Protective Measure in Fire: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.
6.) ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Personal Precaution in Spill: Utilize recommended protective clothing and equipment.
Environment: Collect wash water for approved disposal. Keep from entering water or ground water.
Spill Clean Up: Clean spills in a manner that does not disperse dust into the air. Spill area can be washed with water.
7.) HANDLING/STORAGE

8.) EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Protective Equipment: Use local ventilation if dusting is a problem, to maintain air levels below the recommended exposure limit.
Process Conditions: Emergency showers and eye wash stations should be available. Educate and train employees in the safe use and handling of hazardous chemicals.
Respirators: Work ambient concentrations should be monitored and if the recommended exposure limit is exceeded, a NIOSH/MSHA approved dust respirator must be worn.
Protective Gloves: Wear PVC gloves.
Eye Protection: Wear safety glasses or goggles.
Other Protection: Wear impervious boots and apron or coveralls.
Hygienic Work Practices: Employees should wash their hands and face before eating, drinking or using tobacco products.
